Everyone experiences difficulties—be it loss, neglect, trauma, abuse, mistreatment or disappointment. That’s part of being human.
Whether these experiences occur early in our childhood or later in life, we all have different ways of understanding these difficulties. If we are fortunate, we can know about them truthfully.
But often we are uncertain about how our own behavior relates to these past or current stresses. We are left feeling weighed down and unable to move forward. Some typical reactions might be to:
• blame oneself and suffer low self-esteem
• internalize the anger and feel depressed
• believe that the danger continues and feel anxious
• continue to repeat a negative pattern, thus making choices that affect marriage relationships, job situation and friendships
• develop symptoms such as eating disorders, sleep difficulties, fears, phobias, anxieties, excessive anger, social isolation and loneliness.
Psychotherapy is a safe place to explore and understand these underlying difficulties. By bringing unseen difficulties into our awareness and letting go of self-reproach, we find ourselves presented with new and inspiring opportunities for growth. Learn how my approach to therapy can help you achieve your personal goals.
